Fiji Airways announced it will expand its connections to Northern Australia with a new route to Cairns.

Fiji Airways announced it will expand its connections to Northern Australia with a new route to Cairns.

From April 10, 2025, the Fijian flag carrier will launch its new thrice-weekly service (Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday) between Nadi and Cairns. Fiji Airways will use Boeing 737 MAX aircraft on the route.

According to Fiji Airways, the new Nadi-Cairns flight schedule will align with the schedule of its flights between Nadi and Dallas-Fort Worth - which will be launched on December 10 - for travel between the two destinations, and other major North American cities beyond Dallas through its oneworld alliance membership and partnership with Dallas-based American Airlines.

“Our new service to Cairns is a further step in our network expansion, providing more travel options and enhanced connectivity for our customers,” said Andre Viljoen, Managing Director and CEO, Fiji Airways. “Northern Australia holds a special allure for many of our travelers, and we’re proud to bring them closer to it. This route also offers convenient onward connections from Cairns to Dallas via Nadi, making it easier than ever for travelers to access North America.”

This announcement from Fiji Airways, Fiji’s national airline, is a game changer for our region,” said Cairns Airport Chief Executive Officer Richard Barker. “Not only does it open the South Pacific to locals as a great holiday destination or to visit loved ones, but maximising the growing network of Fiji Airways means fast, one-stop connectivity to North America via its hub in Nadi. Destinations such as Los Angeles and San Francisco are now just 16 hours away, slashing nearly three hours of travel time via an Australian domestic port.”

According to Tourism Tropical North Queensland, the new flights – with the connections to Dallas – will serve North America which is the second largest market for the region by more than 74% (101,000 visitors during FY2023). Queensland Tourism Minister Andrew Powell stated the new flights will serve an estimated 26,593 inbound passengers annually.

With the addition of Cairns, Fiji Airways will offer flights to six cities in Australia. The airline currently offers flights from Nadi to Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, and Sydney.
